OVERVIEW

The varieties of Chinese are usually described by native speakers as dialects of a single Chinese language, but linguists note that they are as diverse as a language family. The most famous variety being mandarin chinese or traditional chinese. There are nearly 1.2 billion chinese speaking people (around 16% of the world’s population) to date who speak Chinese as their first language.

A Chinese language teacher helps students learn Chinese language while using a language the students already understand as a point of reference. For instance, the teacher would be teaching Chinese to English speaking students by using English as a point of reference to translate from the Chinese Language.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teach skills and knowledge in Chinese language instruction to students utilizing core curriculum and other appropriate learning activities approved by the Board of Education
Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the Chinese language curriculum
Prepare and deliver lessons
Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Devise, write and produce new materials, including audio and visual resources
Prepare and set tests, examination papers and exercises
Mark and provide appropriate feedback on oral and written work
Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture of the people of China
Attend and contribute to training sessions
Participate in marketing events for the language school
Undertake administrative tasks, such as keeping student registers and attendance records.
Select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records
Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Any other duties assigned

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

A Bachelor’s Degree or Recognized Certification Chinese Language or

Linguistics or a related field.

TRAINING | COACHING | STUDY REQUIREMENTS

Materials needed to study Chinese include;

Chinese Dictionary

Chinese Instructional Book

Chinese to English (or other) translation book

Chinese Tutorial videos to help in pronounciation and helping reference context of where words are used

Native Fluency or fluency in language of reference.
