OVERVIEW
A lifeguard is an on-water rescuer who supervises the safety and rescue of surfers, swimmers and other water sports participants such as in a water park, swimming pool or beach.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Rigorous training to stay in top shape
- Taking refresher courses to stay up to date with safety requirements
- Treat the pool with appropriate concentration of chemicals on a regular schedule
- Monitor pool-related activities closely throughout shift and identify any safety issues
- Direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions
- Monitor weather reports closely to ensure safety of guests
- Provide swimming lessons and swim team coaching when available
- Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool
- Provide assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary
- Open the pool each day and close it down each evening, depending on schedule and hours
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- A diploma from an accredited university Degree
- Certification in First Aid
- Qualified to teach swimming lessons or coaching a swim team would be highly desirable
- A minimum of 2 years experience as a lifeguard is preferred

- First Aid Kit
- Floaters
- Swimming or diving gear
- Diving equipment
